Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, one story, two-bay facade, with rectangular footprint and clipped-gable roof. Foundation concealed by square lattice skirting; clapboard siding; asphalt shingle roof. One-story partial-width projecting porch, with square posts, flared solid-sided shingle rail, exposed rafter tails, hipped roof. Gable with one-over-one window and raking cornice. Porch shelters single door. Spanning the facade right (southeast) of projecting porch is a shallow entry porch with half-hipped roof joined to main porch roof, sheltering main front door and a one-over-one wood window. Bay window at left (northwest) side. Exposed rafter tails continuous at eaves. Side windows generally one-over-one double-hung wood windows. Flat-roofed addition at rear. This cottage is believed to have been the laundry room for the Mosquito Lodge, next door. It appears on the 1905 Sanborn map as a “canvas frame” structure with multiple rear wings, some wood framed and some canvas; the fully wood-framed cottage was built by 1914 on the same footprint. The Vivekananda organization owned the cottage for an undetermined amount of time.
