Thousand Island Park
Historic District
Thousand Island Park is a community in Jefferson County, New York that was established in 1875 as a Methodist campground located on Wellesley Island, one of the Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence River valley, It is now a secular, mostly summer time community.
TI Park was originally placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. In 2021, the National Register approved an updated submission that includes, for the first time, the public buildings (Tabernacle, Library, Chapel, Wellesley Hotel, Main Dock Pavilion, Landmark Society Resource Centre) and boat houses.
The boundaries of the TI Park historic district are Coast Avenue East, Coast Avenue West, Prospect Avenue, Park Avenue and Sunset Avenue. It includes a total of 441 residential cottages, public buildings, boathouses and secondary buildings, 322 of which “contribute” to the Park’s status in the National Register. The period of significance is 1975-1940, with most buildings constructed in the late 19th/early 20th centuries.

The Thousand Island Park Landmark Society is the community-based, not-for-profit organization founded in 1976 to protect the architectural integrity and history of , Thousand Island Park, one of the nation’s most intact 19th century Methodist campgrounds.
From the time that it was founded, the TIPLS, often called “Landmark”, has promoted the preservation and appreciation of the unique architectural and social heritage of Thousand Island Park. It is a 501-c-3 organization acting as a historic preservation resource for research, education, architectural information and preservation projects.
