Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, two stories, three-bay by five-bay, with asymmetrical front-gabled roof. Foundation concealed by vertical board skirting; clapboard siding; asphalt shingle roof. Two-story, full-width front porch extends one bay to the left (south), creating an L-shaped footprint, with square posts, flared solid-sided rail (cove siding at first floor, tall clapboards at second); both levels screened. Gable with vertical board siding and exposed beams. First-floor porch shelters double front door, at right, and one-over-one window, at left. Screen conceals openings at second-floor porch. Side windows generally one-over-one double-hung wood windows.

History: This lot is in the area that was almost entirely cleared in the 1912 fire. Sanborn maps from 1905 and 1914 show a cottage with a similar footprint, 1 ½ stories before the fire and one story after; presumably the original cottage was destroyed in the fire and a new one built with a similar plan. The second story was added after 1924, which likely explains the atypical asymmetrical roofline.
