Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, one full story plus partial second story, two-bay by three-bay, with rectangular footprint and side-gabled roof; overall Craftsman character and bungalow-like form. Located at the northwest end of Prospect Point. Foundation concealed by square lattice skirting; wood shingle siding; asphalt shingle roof. Deep deck along left (northwest) side, facing the bay, with turned posts and square balusters. Double door, at center, and picture window to either side overlook deck, rustic stone chimney to left of door. Originally open front porch on southwest side, beneath main roof, now enclosed with shingle siding and windows at front and sides; two front (southwest) three-part windows have fixed square window at center flanked by one-over-one double-hung wood sash; porch windows on southeast side are paired four-over-one double-hung sash. Two gabled dormers on southwest side. Prominent gable returns on northwest and southeast sides. Shed-roofed addition on northeast side (rear) with deep, full-width shed dormer above; exposed rafter tails at shed dormer. Side windows include awning, picture, one-over-one, and four-over-one double-hung wood windows.

History: Estimated construction date of 1883 on 1980 survey, which may refer to the original lease lot; the cottage’s modified bungalow form and Craftsman characteristics suggest a later construction date. Its footprint is recognizable on the 1905 Sanborn map, with a full-width open front porch on the southwest side; county property records provide a construction date of 1900, which is probably approximately correct given stylistic and map evidence.
