Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, two stories, with cross-gable roof and unusual proportions. Pier foundation behind square lattice skirting; wood cove siding; asphalt shingle roof. Narrow front-gabled section, gable end facing Headland Avenue, with broader cross-gable wing extending to the south. Full-width one-story front porch with square posts, wood rail with square balustrade, and shaped rafter tails extends across Headland Avenue side and wraps northwest corner to extend across Oak Street side as well, partially screened and partly open. Second-floor porch across gable end of Oak Street side only, with similar features, sheltering one door and one window in this unusually narrow section of the cottage. Multiple front and side doors, interspersed with regularly spaced one-over-one windows with flat hoods; first-and second-floor window and door openings do not align. Second floor added since 1980.

History: 1980 survey provided estimated construction date of ca. 1883, but the footprint on the 1924 Sanborn map does not match the location, size, porch configuration, or proportions of the cottage shown on the 1914 map, suggesting replacement or substantial alteration circa 1920.
