Frame cottage, two stories plus attic, with generally rectangular footprint and cross-gabled roof, notable for its complex wall surfaces and roofline, with multiple projecting and recessed forms. Foundation concealed by shingle skirting and square lattice grates; shingle siding; asphalt shingle roof. Two-story front porch. First-floor wraparound porch with turned posts over stone piers, turned balusters, paneled gable over front steps, and plain frieze band. Second-floor porches unconnected, under front and side gables; with turned balusters, outwardly bowed double band rail with spindles over solid shingle-sided rail, flattened arch spandrel. Closed front gable with square butt shingle siding, raking cornice, and two one-over-one double-hung windows. First-floor porch shelters double front door, at left, with one-over-one window and picture window, at right; angled bay with secondary single door, at right side; porch also shelters third entry door and one-over-one window. Second-floor porch openings obscured. Right (east) gable with decorative stickwork paneling, projecting triple-ganged one-over-one windows, shingle siding. Side windows generally one-over-one double-hung wood sash. Hipped roof with eyebrow dormer and entry porch at rear.

History: Built as a cottage for the Dorence family, this house became part of the “Rochester Cottages” hotel complex in the 1920s. It became a private cottage again in the 1960s.
