Description & Additional Information

Steve Taylor, designer and builder. Frame cottage, two stories, with asymmetrical cruciform footprint and cross-gable roof; ridgeline of side-gable wing is higher than that of the front-gabled section. Foundation concealed by square lattice skirting; clapboard siding; asphalt shingle roof. One-story full-width front porch spans front of side wing and extends slightly past right (southeast) side, with chamfered posts, square balusters, and plain frieze band. Porch shelters double front doors, at left (northwest), and paired one-over-one windows, at right side. Two-story projecting bay at front of front wing, enclosed by windows at first floor, open at second floor as a porch with square posts, square balusters, and plain frieze band. Second-floor porch shelters double door with sidelights. Projection carries up to gable, with shingle siding; decorative truss in gable. Right (southeast) gable end has a stone chimney flanked by paired one-over-one windows at first floor, diamond-shaped windows at second floor; shingle siding in gable. Behind this is a one-story rear addition with recessed entry porch. Shallow projecting wing on left side has shingle siding and decorative gable truss. Flared shingle siding below sill-level, continuous at left side. Side windows generally one-over-one double-hung wood windows. This was the first house built after the preservation ordinance was enacted, and thus the first new house reviewed by the preservation commission.
