Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, two stories plus tall attic, with complex footprint and roofline combining hipped and steeply pitched gable forms, situated on a sloping site south of County Route 100 and oriented toward the waterfront. House is built partially atop a rock outcropping, which is visible inside the house. Two main sections: side-gabled at front (toward the water), with steeply pitched main roof and lower pitch over two-story front porch; steeply pitched gable dormer over porch. First-floor porch has concrete deck, simple wood posts, and no rail; north half of porch is screened by vertical wood lattice-like construction. Double front doors (new in 2020) at right (south), with bank of three windows to the north. Second-floor porch has wood posts and rail behind screens, and spindle frieze with knob detail; screens conceal second-floor window and door openings. Windows on front and sides generally two-over-two double-hung wood sash, single and in pairs. South side gable end has vertically laid cove siding in gable and tall two-over-two wood window; north gable end has prominent stone chimney between two windows. Rear section has low-pitched hipped roof and irregularly spaced windows; rock outcropping is visible at rear of this section. A side porch on south side, at the juncture between front and rear sections of the cottage, has a shed roof, square post, and spindle frieze with knob detail matching second-floor front porch frieze.
