Description & Additional Information

Unusual Prairie-style cottage on three levels, built into a sloped site on a rock outcropping. Stone foundation; composite shingle siding; asphalt shingle roof. Multiple low-pitched hipped roof forms: the main body of the house is two levels, taller on the water side than the street side due to the change in grade, with irregular window configurations at the lower level and a continuous band of casement windows just below the eaves on the southeast and southwest sides (the two sides facing the water). An attached frame garage faces the street, with a pair of doors opening onto a deck on the garage roof. At the east corner of the house is a broad one-story cupola with a low-pitched hipped roof and band of casement windows just below the eaves. This house is unique in Thousand Island Park, taking advantage of a dramatic site to create a composition that merges site and architecture in a distinctive way; its unusual composition is clearly legible despite the incompatible siding material.
