Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, two stories, with generally rectangular footprint and multiple roof types: main side-gabled roof with gable and hipped forms over front porch; rear cross-gable wing. Pier foundation; square lattice skirting; vertical board (front), wide clapboard (sides), and shingle (porch rail) siding; asphalt shingle roof. This cottage is about triple the width of a traditional platform cottage in Thousand Island Park; Sanborn maps show it was built in at least two, possibly three, construction phases, with the center and right (south) sections predating the left (north) section. Uniform two-story front porch spans all three sections; porch has flared shingle-sided rail and turned columns. Center section, below a gabled dormer with oculus, is three bays wide, with center door flanked by two-over-two windows; second floor of this section has a single center door. Two-bay south section, at right, has two doors at first floor, cutaway (first floor only) with one two-over-two window on the angle, and two second-floor doors. Three-bay north section, at left, has door flanked by two-over-two window at first and second floors. North and south sections have pyramidal hipped roofs over porch. Side windows generally two-over-two wood sash; other types include a bank of three one-over-one windows on south side, and fixed or awning windows on rear wing.
