Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, 1 ½ stories, with gable-and-wing configuration. Pier foundation concealed by vertical board skirting; cove siding; asphalt shingle roof. Two-story, full-width front porch. First-floor porch has square posts, no rail, and full-height screens. Second-floor porch has solid sided rail, square posts, and screens. First-floor porch shelters double front door, at center, with narrow french doors at either side. Screen conceals openings at second-floor porch. Side windows include two-over-two double-hung windows with wood sash and six-pane casement windows. Gable-roof addition and deck at rear.

History: According to the 1980 survey, this was the cottage of the Starbuck family, the first family to occupy this part of the island; they spent the first summer in tents and likely built this cottage within the first few years of TIP’s existence. It is therefore likely one of the oldest surviving cottages at TIP.
