Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, one story, with U-plan footprint and shed-roof. Popularly known as the “Butterfly Cottage,” this is a rare example of Modernist architecture in Thousand Island Park. Concrete foundation; vertical board siding; membrane roofing. Form consists of two inward-sloping shed-roofed wings, oriented north to south, connected by a hyphen at north to form a U shape; east wing set farther back. Uncovered, partial-width cast concrete deck with metal railing at center of U. Three pairs of sliding glass doors open onto the deck, one pair on each side. Stone chimney on west wall of east shed-roofed wing. Windows include banks of slightly projecting sliding or casement windows. Attached garage with two-car opening at northeast corner next to a recessed entrance. Built on the site of the old Geneva Hotel. Noncontributing due to age.
