Description & Additional Information

Frame cottage, bungalow form, one story, with rectangular footprint and broad hipped roof. Shed dormer at all four sides of cottage. Concrete block foundation; rusticated cement block and pressed tin panel siding; asphalt shingle roof. One-story, full-width front porch beneath roof spanning south (front) and west sides, with turned posts, solid-sided rail of pressed tin formed to look like shingles, plain frieze band; partially enclosed with banks of casement windows topped by divided-light transoms. Band of decorative molded concrete blocks with swag pattern just below eaves. Porch shelters one-over-one windows, at center and left; at left side, porch also shelters single door and one-over-one windows to either side. Side windows generally one-over-one double-hung wood windows. Several windows replaced since 1980.

History: This cottage was built right after the 1912 fire; the use of concrete and metal exterior materials reflects interest in fireproof materials. The builder was C.W. Niemeyer, a concrete and stone mason.
